I like to think they can see me eating

Yes, my title is part of a longer Houseism from Monday night’s episode of House!  I really liked it, though I didn’t think it was quite as strong as the season premiere.  I roared with laughter when House was talking about watching “The Biggest Loser” marathon on tv though – it’s nice to know that our “kinder, gentler House” hasn’t completely overruled his impulse to say what he’s thinking!  This was also evident in all the “ball” jokes during the cooking class House attended with Wilson.

Overall, I can’t wait to see where this season goes!

House in the House!

Eeeek!  Last night’s season six premiere of House was AMAZING!  Kudos to Hugh Laurie for a fantastic and nuanced performance.  He’s always amazing in the title role of Dr. Gregory House (and I still maintain that he was ROBBED of his Emmy on Monday night!), but last night he went above and beyond!  For two hours I was caught up in his emotional journey at Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital.  I was also blown away by Andre Braugher’s performance as House’s psychiatrist.

There were definitely un-House-like elements in last night’s episode, and in this case, they definitely served to strengthen the episode.  Seeing House challenge the system and try to wreak havoc with the patients was classic House, but then watching him open up and actually make an effort to change his life was beautiful.  Seeing House open up and become vulnerable took me on an emotional journey along with the character.  I am so, so glad that the episode focused solely on House’s emotional journey!  To take away from that journey by showing the team working on some case would have cheapened House’s struggle and weakened the whole episode.

I can hardly wait to see where season 6 goes from here!  If you haven’t yet become a fan of House, I encourage you to check it out, Monday nights at 8pm on Fox.

My Quick Thoughts on the Emmys

First: Neil Patrick Harris did a wonderful job as host!  The opening number was great and really set the tone for the whole show.  I particularly liked the Kanye West reference!

Second: Dividing the show into genres was a good idea.  It seemed to flow much more nicely that way, and the unifying themes made sense.

Third: The speeches were blissfully shorter than I expected!  That was so nice!!  I thought Jeff Probst (spelling?) speech for best reality competition host was good, even though I though Phil Keoghan should have won!

Fourth: Having the colour commentary on the winners as they came up to get their award was really funny.  I hope they guy was just making stuff up ‘cuz that would have been totally hilarious!

Fifth: Hugh Laurie was totally ROBBED!  He should have won best actor in a dramatic series!  Season five of House was some of the most superbly acted television I’ve ever seen!

Sixth: House should have won for best drama too!

Seventh: Neil Patrick Harris’s bit after he lost to Jon Cryer was great!

Top Five Shows I’m Looking Forward to the Premiere Of!

Okay, I’ve been meaning to sit down and type out this post for ages, but as usual, life has gotten in the way!  Oh well . . .

The fall tv show is once again upon us, and I’ve got to say, there are some shows I’m definitely excited to revisit!!  Here’s what I’m most looking forward to seeing:

5. 90210 (Tuesdays at 8pm, The CW) – Okay, so technically this show premiered last week.  My bad!  I really want to see how the whole Annie storyline plays out!  I’m also curious to see what happens with Naomi and Liam . . . and how long “No More Drama Adriana” can handle a drama-free life!

4. One Tree Hill (Mondays at 8pm, The CW) – Yeah, it premiered last night!  It’s strange watching the show without Lucas and Peyton, and I’m not sure how well it will fare without them as they were the backbone of the first 5 seasons!  I have to admit though, I did enjoy hearing Haley sing during the episode!

3. Bones (Thursday, 8pm, Fox.  Premieres September 17th) – I’ve gotta know how Booth’s memory loss plays out!  I also have to know if the show will “jump the shark,” particularly given how stupid I thought the Stewie appearance was!  From what I’m given to understand though, the relationship between Booth and Bones is going to deepen this season, which I’ll look forward to watching!

2. N.C.I.S. (Tuesdays, 8pm, CBS.  Premieres September 22nd) – What happens to Ziva??!!  Will the relationship between Ziva and Tony survive?  I. Have. To. Know!

1. House (Mondays, 8pm, Fox.  Premieres September 21st) – Yeah, like there was ever any doubt that this would be my number one pick!  Oh my god I can’t wait!  I have to know about House’s experience in the Psychiatric Hospital and what the long-term consequences of his hallucinations will be.  I have a feeling the first episode will make me bawl, and if Hugh Laurie doesn’t win an emmy for his worrk in season 5, I will scream!

And you, dear readers?  What shows are you looking forward to watching this fall?

I was just about to type up a quick post highlighting the fact that Fox is already starting to hype season 6 of House with some teaser commercials.  When I saw the commercial a few minutes ago I was immediately excited, and a little bummed to think that I’d be seeing commercials like this for the next THREE months or so before any new episodes were broadcast.

Like I said, that was the post I was about to type out.  Then I came across this (spoiler free, don’t worrry)!  True awesomeness.  Thank GOD this little tidbit has nothing to do with CSI: Miami!

My left hand hates me!

I just finished watching the season finale of HouseWarning: spoilers ahead!

Shock.  That’s the best, most descriptive word I can come up with right now.  The last five minutes of tonight’s episode were pure poetry.  A complete 180.  My heart completely ached for House when he realized that everything was an illusion.  I was in tears when Wilson dropped him off at the Psychiatric Hospital.  I can’t believe we’re going to have to wait until September to continue this story!

The writing in this episode was amazing.  The storyline of the left hand hating the rest of the patient and constantly hitting things and throwing things was an excellent metaphor for House’s own fears and insecurities.  Face it, those fears and insecurities are what keeps House from forming real bonds and relationships with anyone other than Wilson.  Having an actual patient to focus on, rather than a delusion, enables House to explore what he feels for Cuddy.  He spends the better part of the episode trying to “make her angry” so that he can further their relationship.  Ever after Wilson asks him several times if he wants a relationship with Cuddy, or if he just wants a puzzle to solve, House persists.  You know the old saying, and I think it’s particularly appropriate here: actions DO speak louder than words.

I very much enjoyed the juxtaposition of House being taken to the hospital with Chase and Cameron’s wedding.  The two extremes – sorrow and joy – were beautifully crafted together.  The mood of both scenes was picked up by the dark moodiness of the bleak landscape surrounding the Psychaitric Hospital, and the light and flowers of the wedding.  Ultimately I am glad that the writers allowed Chase and Cameron their happy ending.  I think in the House universe, some relationships just have to work out sometimes.

In closing, if Hugh Laurie and Anne Dudek (Amber) aren’t nominated for Emmy awards on the strength of their performances over the last few episodes, it will be a crime!

And you, dear readers, what are your thoughts on House and the season finale?

Can I just say OMG?!

Yeah, so House last night was completely amazing!  The rawness of emotion, the passion, the ending!  Not only did they go there, but they did it in the most satisfying way.

Sadly, even though I’m a fan of the Cameron/Chase relationship, I could barely be bothered to follow what was happening with that storyline in this episode.  The sperm thing was shocking, but given who Cameron is, I guess not all that surprising.  I thought Foreman summed it up quite nicely by saying that Chase could never leave her because then he’d be the guy who left her, and killed her children.  What an impossible situation to be put in.  I guess it proves that she’s not quite ready to be Mrs. Robert Chase yet.  Poor Chase!

They see dead people

I’m watching House right now (I’ve got about a minute or so before the commercial break ends) and I just feel compelled to ask this question: why, when Grey’s Anatomy has a main character seeing a ghost, it comes off as cheesy and stupid, but when they do essentially the same thing on House, it comes off as DRAMATIC and FREAKING AMAZING??  Seriously people, this is good TV right here.

Okay, so I just got home from seeing Wolverine starring the sexy Hugh JackmanWarning: potential spoilers ahead!

The story itself is a little hard to believe.  But when you keep in mind this is an X-Men movie, it’s forgivable.  The action is plentiful!  The mutants are cool.  I particularly liked Kayla’s sister (the woman with the diamond skin) and the young Scott Summers.  All the mutants were neat, even Victor, the future Sabretooth.

After Logan gets the Adamantium injected into him and awakens full of rage, we get to see the gorgeous Hugh Jackman, NAKED!  As he runs out of the secret lab and jumps off the cliff into the lake, we get to see the results of all of Hugh’s months of working out and pumping iron.  People’s Sexiest Man indeed.  Women everywhere should go see this movie just for those few brief scenes when he’s naked.  It’s totally worth the price of your movie ticket!

I did feel like the movie ended rather quickly.  I expected a little bit more in the way of plot twists, but what can you do?  The movie did a good job of filling in Logan/Wolverine’s back story.  It made me want to go back and watch the X-Men movies again 🙂

Oh, and the Patrick Stewart cameo at the end was a nice touch.

I Heart Hugh

Yup, planning on seeing Wolverine this weekend with a friend.  Of course, my lovely readers, I will post a review afterwards.  Having plans to see a movie with the incredibly sexy Hugh Jackman in it made me realize that many of my favourite actors, my Hollywood Husbands, if you will, are named Hugh 🙂

Hugh Laurie is, as you will soon come to find out, my all-time number one crush/fantasy.  I love him on House.  *Drool*  I love his accent, his sense of humour, his scruffiness . . . He is definitely an amazing actor, and has the awards to prove it.

Hugh Grant is also a crush of mine.  I definitely like his shorter, edgier haircut better than that floppy mop he was sporting a few years back.  I know he has a reputation for being a bit of a cad, but he’s just so darn cute!  Besides, he also has that ever-so-sexy British accent working for him 🙂

Did you catch Hugh Jackman hosting the Oscars this year?  Talk about impressive – he can sing, dance, act, and he looks fantastic with his shirt off!  How can you not adore him?!
