Ninja Assassin

Sorry guys, I know it’s been a while since I posted!  What can I say but I’ll try to do better!

So I got the opportunity a couple of days ago to see a movie at the Vancouver International Film Festival for the first time ever.  The movie, chosen by a friend of a friend, was Ninja Assassin.

Now I’ll be honest, my knowledge of ninja films is fairly basic.  I saw a youtube clip of the movie before I went, and enjoyed the action aspects of the movie, so I figured it couldn’t be too bad.  Besides, it was an opportunity to try new things and meet new people.

Before the film started, we were treated to an introduction to the movie from the director himself, James McTeigue.  It was pretty cool to see the guy in person!  He was funny, and it helped having him explain his vision before we saw the movie.  It was also good to have him warn us about the blood bath we were in for!  Yes, I had guessed that the movie would be violent, but this movie takes violence to a whole new level!

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie!  It’s stupid, cheesy, and full of laughs!  I am nearly 100% sure that this was the intention of the movie, and I applaud them for doing it so well!  It was also fun having the friend sitting next to me whisper to me all the sarcastic things we were both thinking (I don’t think my friend enjoyed the movie nearly as much as I did).

I definitely would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys ninja movies, action movies, and movies featuring particularly violent and bloody deaths!
