See now, if we were George and Owen, we’d hug right now!

So Grey’s Anatomy last night . . .

Loved it!  Warning: spoiler alert ahead!

I missed a lot of the first hour because I was watching Hell’s Kitchen.  It wasn’t overly hard to keep up though.  I really thought the scene with Meredith and Christina, when Christina gave Meredith her something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue, was adorable.  It hit just the right note of whimsy and heart.  I can’t say I was overly fond of Derek and Meredith’s “post-it” wedding (surely there would have been time in the next couple of days to go down to City Hall and get married legally?), but I can see it playing a major part in next season’s storylines.

I love the character of Owen Hunt, so it was nice to see him being embraced by Christina.  His storyline is so relevant to today’s society!  He’s a complicated man, damaged by war and not in complete control of his anger and other emotions.  Christina loves him, but is told by everyone – society, media, her friends – that he is dangerous and not good for her.  But at the end of the day, she can’t ignore what her heart tells her.  I love those two!

Finding out that George was John Doe was truly heart-wrenching.  I wonder why it never occurred to anyone earlier since nobody had seen him around the hospital all day, and pushing someone out of the path of a bus is totally something George would do!  Meredith’s cry of alarm when he was finally able to communicate his identity to her was so full of despair and fear . . . it gave me chills!

At the same time, Izzy’s storyline left me feeling a little incredulous.  She finally opts for the brain surgery, fully believing that it could leave her with no memories and no sense of self, or worse, death, only to wake up and be totally fine except for some short-term memory problems.  Then it takes Alex behaving as an ass to make her memory start to work again?  I don’t think so!  How convenient as well that she is just getting back to herself and Alex is holding her in his arms when she flatlines!

Now we are left to wonder about the fates of both Izzy and George.  Will one, or both, perish?  With rumours swirling that both T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl are eager to leave the show, speculation about their fates will likely fuel many a water-cooler gossip session for the months to come!
